Product Description

Urban Wastewater Disinfection Water Treatment UV Water Sterilizer

Introduction
Ultraviolet light treatment is a widely recognized and proven method of disinfection of water and has several advantage over other disinfection methods such as chlorination, ozonation, etc.UV light does not add anything to the water ,such as ,undesirable color ,odor , taste , or flavor ,nor does it generate harmful byproducts. It adds only energy in the UV radiation. Also, UV disinfection requires only a fraction of the contact times required by other disinfection methods. It is fast, efficient, effective, economical and environmentally-friendly.

Composition
are made of high quality stainless steel and comprise of s/s chamber containing a germicidal lamp and quartz sleeve plus a separate electrical box which allows flexibility for fitting.

When selecting an ultraviolet system care must be taken to choose a model that is powerful enough to treat the flow required. If the flow is faster than specified  the water passes through the chamber too fast for the rays to effectively kill all the bacteria

Where levels of sediment are high or water is cloudy a pre-filter should be fitted as shadowing from the particles could stop the UV rays reaching the organisms.
Ultra violet water treatment systems (UV sterilisers) kill bacteria in water. They are often used to ensure safe drinking water from well, spring and borehole water supplies. Due to increased legislation are now regularly used in food and drink related industries.

Micro organisms including bacteria, viruses and cysts are all around us naturally. Many are harmless but exposure to "bad" ones can cause severe illness particularly in the elderly and very young. There is a wide variety of water treatment products available to improve taste, clarity, scale etc but none of these are designed to combat bacteria. Ultra violet water treatment is one of the safest ways to disinfect water as the UV rays are a natural component of sunlight. No chemicals are added so there is no danger from overdosing or creating a bad taste

Usages and Advantages
· Effective: Virtually all microorganisms are susceptible to UV disinfection
· Automatic: Continuous or intermittent disinfection without special attention
· Fast: Water is ready for consumption as soon as it leaves the cell
· Easy: Simple installation and maintenance. Minimum space requirement
· Safe: No danger or way of overdosing, no addition of hazardous chemicals
· Versatile: Capacities available from 2 to 80 gallons per minute
· Economical: Hundreds of gallons of water can be purified for a few cents per day
· No Chemicals: No chlorine taste or corrosion problems

How Does UV Sterilisation Work?

UV water disinfection system design has been carefully conceived to provide adequate germicidal dosage throughout the disinfection chamber. The dosage, as it applies to UV disinfection, is a function of time and the intensity of UV radiation to which the water is exposed. Exposure time is related to the flow rate, the higher the flow rate, the lower the exposure time or the lower the flow rate, the higher the exposure time. The UV intensity is the amount of energy, per unit time, emitted by germicidal lamp. The Dosage is the product of UV intensity and the exposure time.

What Contaminants Do UV Sterilizers Remove?

There are no micro-organisms known to be resistant to UV, unlike chlorination. UV is known to be highly effective against bacteria, viruses, algae, molds and yeasts, and disease causing oocysts like cryptosporidium and giardia. In practice, bacteria and viruses are the cause of most major waterborne pathogenic diseases. Of these enteric viruses, hepatitis virus  have been shown to survive for considerable periods in the presence of chlorine, but are readily eliminated by UV treatment. For most microorganisms, the removal efficiency of UV for microbiological contaminants such as bacteria and virus generally exceeds 99.99%.

FAQ:

Is UV 100% effective?

UV disinfection typically offers a 99.99% reduction in both bacteria and virus and is more effective than chemical disinfection processes at destroying viruses.

Does UV remove E. coli?

Yes, E. coli requires a UV dose of between 6 to 12 mJ/cm2 to achieve 4-log disinfection. This is well within the capabilities of the Sterilight UV system.

How much does it cost to operate? UV systems are extremely economical to operate.

A typical household UV system operates on the same power requirements as a 40 watt light bulb!

Will UV change the taste or smell of my water?

UV is a physical disinfection process, no additives are required. It does not change the taste or odour of the water. It simply provides safe reliable disinfection.

How do I know the system is working?

All UV systems come with "lamp-out" monitors which give an audible and visual signal in case of lamp failure. Sterilight GOLD systems incorporate true UV intensity monitors so an alarm will sound if the disinfection effectiveness falls below a safe level.

Why do I need Disinfection?

Disinfection is required on all water supplies that are not protected by a municipal water source. Due to the uncertainties that exist within some water systems, we can no longer rely on the fact that our water supplies "may be safe." By providing your own disinfection, you are taking the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the water supply for you and your family.
